PAttern drafting Workshop
Target Audience:
This course is aimed at anyone working in the costume department either in TV and Film or Theatre. We welcome beginners who are interested in the foundations of flat pattern drafting
Aim of the Session
To enable students to draft basic bodice and sleeve pattern blocks to custom measurements.
By the end of the workshop you should be ....
By the end of the training students will have a better understanding of how to measure accurately for pattern drafting, how to plot those measurements to draft a pattern and how to fix fitting issues/make adjustments to those patterns.
What you should bring with you.
A pencil, 30cm ruler, a notebook and a fabric tape measure and a folder for taking home any worksheets or information sheets from the lesson
What you need to prepare
The students will need to wear close fitting clothing so they are able to take accurate body measurements of each other. If they are uncomfortable having their measurements taken or taking someone elses they will be givne generic body measurements to work from.
Trainer
Tasha Middleton is a textile artist, costume designer, and educator working across studio practice, screen productions, and adult learning. Her creative work blends material exploration with narrative design, often drawing on folklore, cultural history, and traditional textile techniques. In film and television, she specialises in costume design and supervision, with a focus on team leadership, continuity, and detail-driven storytelling through clothing.
Alongside her work in costume, Tasha has a strong background in teaching. She has run her own sewing school, taught costume design at university level, delivers training for professional costume departments, and brings her industry experience into the classroom as a secondary school teacher. Her sessions are clear, practical, and grounded in industry experience, covering everything from pattern drafting and draping to on-set troubleshooting and creative material handling.
