HOPE WITHOUT HOPE with Matt Broomfield & Rhodri Prysor

HOPE without hope

Matt Broomfield & Rhodri Prysor

Offering a rare beacon of hope in an era of genocide, global conflict and rising fascism, the Kurdish-led 'Rojava Revolution' seeks to establish a society based on the liberation of women, ecology & building peace, freedom and justice for all. Since its inception in 2012, this unique movement has survived warfare against ISIS, Turkey (NATO's second-largest army) and other hostile states.

Join journalist Matt Broomfield to discuss his three years living and working in Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan) and his new book Hope Without Hope: Rojava and Revolutionary Commitment. He explores how the Kurdish movement can help us on the Western left relearn our commitment to hope in hopeless times.

The revolutionary movement of Rojava and its people shed light on struggle, strategy, and endurance—how and why to fight for revolution in the face of nearly impossible odds.

Hope Without Hope carries on the long tradition of history, absurdist philosophy, and radical thought that has studied how anti-fascist and anti-colonial movements answer defeat and repression with a revolutionary faith in transformation.

Rhodri Prysor of Kurdish Solidarity Cymru will be hosting a Q & A with the author following a reading. Refreshments will be available to buy, and a stall selling revolutionary books and scarves from Kurdistan.

The evening will end with live traditional Kurdish music by a local artist. Join us for a night exploring the discipline of hope and revolutionary commitment through ideas, song and solidarity.
