STATE OF PLAY Exhibition
STATE OF PLAY is a celebration of creativity, curiosity and the confidence that grows when young people are given the time, space and encouragement to explore their ideas.
This exhibition showcases work created by participants aged 16–25 who have taken part in the STATE OF PLAY programme at The Canopi. Over the past months, they have experimented across a range of creative disciplines including drawing, painting, illustration, printmaking, fashion, textiles, model making and mixed media. Rather than focusing solely on finished outcomes, the exhibition celebrates the creative journey itself—embracing experimentation, risk-taking, problem-solving and personal expression.
Every piece on display reflects an individual voice. Some works explore identity, memory and belonging, while others simply celebrate the joy of making. Together they demonstrate the power of creativity to build confidence, develop practical skills and create meaningful connections between people.
STATE OF PLAY was created in response to the growing need for accessible, hands-on creative opportunities for young adults. It offers a welcoming environment where participants can learn from professional artists, try new techniques, meet like-minded people and discover new possibilities for their future.
We hope this exhibition offers a glimpse into the incredible talent, imagination and potential of the next generation of creatives, and reminds us that creativity isn't about having all the answers—it's about having the confidence to begin.
